Ricky,

The story of the short lived Titanic is really interesting, here is one site you can check out: http://www.titanicstory.com/

Can you imagine a huge iceberg, big enough to sink a giant ship like the Titanic?

The Titanic, famously referred to as the unsinkable ship, was built in Northern Ireland. At the time, the Titanic was the largest passenger steamship in the world. Titanic set sail on April 10, 1912 to America carrying over 2,000 passengers and crew members. On the fourth night of its maiden voyage, the Titanic hit an ice burg and sank just over two hours later. Over 1,500 people died and only 700 survived. We now have regulations that require ships to carry enough life boats for all passengers aboard as well as more sophisticated technology for detecting ice burgs in the first place.

Hi Ricky, This is Mr, Palmer's Uncle Don. The simple answer is the Titanic hit an Iceberg, but that's not the whole story....when the Titanic was built, we didn't know much about metalergy (the study of metals) how to make metal strong without being brittle like glass. The people that made the metal parts for titanic had never made such large pieces for such a large ship and so they were unable to 'temper' the steel to make it bend instead of shatter.
Recently some scientists retrieved some of the metal of Titanic and did a stress test and indeed found it to shatter instead of bend, so in reality it was a combination of the big iceberg and bad metalergy that caused a great tragedy.

Hey ricky the titanic was an awesome ship, it cost 7.5million dollars to build. and it cost me $4,700 for a first class ticket. We were cruising along at 22.5 knots when we hit the icberg and Luckily for you i was close to the life boats of would not have been able to enlighten you with my knowledge today.
p.s if Mr. Palmer would have been on the ship he probally would have pushed little kids out of the was to get on a raft.
